This year alone, more than 3,100 women will still be diagnosed with breast cancer in our region.

The Komen Sacramento Race for the Cure is an enduring symbol of the fight against breast cancer and is an annual celebration of the many heroes of all shapes and sizes that help us advance ever closer to a world without breast cancer.

A HERO is someone who embodies passion, strength, action and voice to make an impact in our fight against breast cancer! That means YOU, the Survivor, the doctor, the teams, the fundraisers, and the supporters…you are all HEROES!

Join the thousands that will come together on May 9th at Cal Expo to celebrate our community’s breast cancer survivors and pay tribute to those that lost their battle – raising funds and awareness and bringing us one step closer to a cure.

Every sponsor counts. Every team counts. Every person counts. Every dollar counts.

There’s a hero in all of us.

For three consecutive nights beginning March 30th at 6pm PST, PBS will air the groundbreaking film “Cancer: The Emperor of All Maladies,” produced by Ken Burns.  Based on the Pulitzer-Prize-winning book by Siddahartha Mukherjee, M.D., the film weaves a sweeping historical narrative with intimate stories of patients, and an investigation into the latest scientific breakthroughs.

Susan G. Komen is joining the national conversation sparked by this highly anticipated film series.  Be sure to mark your calendars and tune in as well!

On April 10th & 11th, as part of the outreach effort under the Circle of Promise California Initiative, Komen Sacramento will partner with Planned Parenthood and Alinea Medical Imaging to host free mammogram screening events. There will be two screening events, with one scheduled for April 10th in Stockton and another on April 11th in Sacramento.

African American women suffer significantly higher mortality rates; 41 percent higher than their Caucasian counterparts. For women without health coverage, the burden is even higher – uninsured women have a 30 to 50 percent increased risk of dying from breast cancer than those with insurance.  Komen Sacramento, together with the six other Komen California Affiliates, is working to address breast cancer disparities at both the system and individual levels. Our goal is to educate and motivate African American women to become active about their breast health and get screened. Please share this information and spread the word with your friends, families, and local community organizations!

For more information on the Circle of Promise California Initiative or these upcoming screening events, please contact Dequetta Devine at dequetta@komensacramento.org.
