As a member of this team, we are each playing a part in helping Susan G.Komen® END breast cancer forever.
I have participated in many breast cancer walks, including two 3-daywalks. This year's event has a new meaning for me. I was diagnosedwith breast cancer last November. Even though my cancer was caught"early", it has been a rough road. I had a mastectomy inNovember from which I found out I had an aggressive form of cancer. Thatfinding resulted in undergoing chemotherapy treatments from December untilMarch. I also tested positive for the BRCA1 gene mutation which leads toanother mastectomy in a week, as well as an oophorectomy this summer (both aspreventative measures). That is what catching it "early" lookedlike for me. Something I could have never imagined happening.
I sincerely feel that the surgical, medical, and treatment options we havetoday wouldn’t exist without the hard work and research provided by the Susan GKomen Foundation.
